Artist statement: I do not have a sophisticated philosophy about art. After years of study and practice, I still view all art forms from a very elementary perspective. If a drawing, painting or sculpture pleases my sense of structure and design then I like it. If it does not, then I try to find some redeeming quality in it. If it manages to fail that criteria, then I don't worry about it. Drawing and painting is a distinct pleasure for me and, I hope, what I draw or paint pleases others. If it doesn't,  then I don't worry about it....

Stone's strong drawing background has provided the skill for work in pen and ink, watercolor and oil painting, concentrating on portraiture and still-life. She majored in art at Western Michigan University and has furthered her education by attending workshops presented by other artists. She has studied portrait painting under Daniel Green, a nationally acclaimed potrait artist.

Her accomplishments include: several one-woman shows and the recipient of awards in many group shows in Ohio, Pensylvania and Highlands Art League in Sebring. She has produced commissioned work for the city of Farrell, Pa., the Shenango Valley Water Co., Winner International, Sharon, Pa. and for private patrons in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Florida.

She has taught many successful classes at Highlands Art League in the past and HAL is delighted to have her back teaching workshops this fall.
