Linda Kegley

Linda moved to Florida in 2000 from Lexington, Kentucky where she was an active member of the arts community, calligrapher, graphic designer, and owner of LK Artworks, an advertising, marketing and graphic design business.   She grew up in Owensboro, in western Kentucky, and graduated from the University of Kentucky.

She has won several national advertising awards, designed a series of endangered animal belt buckles, and created commissioned pieces for scores of clients, some as far away as Japan. She has won many awards and ribbons for her art, and has completed over 116 in her series of works: "Don't Drink Like a Fish ®" for which she holds a US Trademark. The fish are residing all over the country.
Another favorite subject features tropical pathways. Her latest paintings are whimsical acrylics, with intricate pattern upon pattern and use iridescent paints with mica embedded. She is also working on a series of children’s alphabet art, creating A-Z of various states. So far, Texas and Kentucky are completed.
Her “Flip Flops After Andy Warhol” was chosen to be the promotion and poster art for the 41st Annual Highlands Art League Fine Arts Festival.

She also creates “Funky Furniture” that some may question, “Is it art or furniture?”The creations are definitely “conversation pieces.” She creates pieces that are colorful, functional and absolutely unforgettable. She selects sturdy wooden furniture and little antiques that have a past, and good lines. (She laughingly says, “Like me.”) Each embellished creation is one-of-a-kind, and should give years of pleasure and use. They are painted in acrylic, just like her paintings, and covered with several layers of acrylic varnish. So the answer to “art or furniture?” is: “both!”

Gicleé prints and tiles are also available for many of her works. She also does graphic design, including web-site development. Linda's is represented by Galleries throughout Florida, and online at the LK Gallery website: www.lkartworks.com

ARTIST STATEMENT:  Linda Kegley
"Working in acrylics has released me from the confines of my past art creations--the constraints of computer graphics, calligraphy and the rigidity of pen and ink renderings. I love to use paints with added mica, and metallics. I have a 25-year background in computer graphics, and I still design many of my wallpapers and designs on the computer. I do enjoy creating wacky perspectives and riots of color in my works. I find inspiration in everything. A walk in a garden, paisley on a golf bag, someone's shirt pattern, a wallpaper design or flowers outside my window might inspire me. The “Don't Drink Like a Fish ®”series, for which I hold a U.S. Trademark, continues to evolve with new situations, fish, patterns and themes. I've created over 116 paintings so far, and the “fish” are now living all over the United States.  I love the free feeling of creating art, and will always lean toward the whimsical, funky style and subject matter that make people feel happy and smile. If I can transport the viewer to a happy world for a few minutes, then I have achieved my goals. I like to think of my paintings as a run through the water sprinkler on a hot summer’s day. I believe that the desire to surround oneself with happy art is universal.
