Shirley Stone
Having majored in art at Western Michigan University, Shirley has furthered her education by attending a number of artistic workshops. She is an experienced artist whose strong drawing background has provided skills for work in pen and ink, watercolor, and oil. She has instructed classes in drawing and painting from her private studio, the Valley Arts Guild in Sharon, Philadelphia; Kent State University; Salem Campus in Salem, Ohio; Trumbull Art Gallery in Warren, Ohio; and since moving to Florida, at the Highlands Art League. Shirley has been a member of the Art League since 1998.
Her accomplishments include several one woman shows and receiving awards in many group shows in Pennsylvania and Ohio. She has produced commissioned work for the city of Farrell, Pennsylvania; the Shenango Valley Water Company in Sharon, Pennsylvania; Winner International in Sharon, Pennsylvania; the Madasz Funeral Home in Brookfield, Ohio; and for private patrons. She has illustrated stories for authors of children’s books in Pennsylvania and Michigan.
Shirley co-authored, illustrated, and published a series of children’s stories which were aired on a local radio station in Sharon, Pennsylvania. The involvement in creating the children’s stories led to the development and presentation of programs on “The Art of Writing and Illustrating” and “The Storybook Workshop” to school children in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
